Case Study: Finance Advisory Firm

A top tier UK-based equity capital markets advisory firm had 9 years of transaction data covering interactions with over 20,000 institutional investors that it wanted to leverage in order to optimize outcomes on future deals. In order to process the large volume of data, the advisory firm needed an advanced business intelligence platform that could run this analysis faster so that their analysts could drilldown into specific insights and trends.

WHY DATAMOTIVATE
The client approached DataMotivate due to their experience in data management and deploying Business Intelligence (BI) reporting platforms. Our executives have evaluated, deployed and maintained reporting platforms for banks and mining companies, witnessing the evolution of reporting systems and technology over the last 20 years. Importantly, DataMotivate is platform agnostic since our experience has shown that no one platform is perfect and that the best fit platform requires an understand of not just the client needs but also the client’s data. Therefore we were able to objectively evaluate multiple platforms and assess them against the client’s specific criteria, priorities and data.

WHAT HAPPENED
For the evaluation, DataMotivate developed a proof of concept, using the client’s own data which was then deployed across several recommended BI platforms. Through this approach, we narrowed the shortlist to 3 that best matched the client’s requirements on lifetime running cost, functionality and ease-of-use.

After the evaluation demonstrations, we provided the client with the information needed to select their reporting platform – acting as a conduit and translator between the BI platform sales reps and the client. Once the platform was selected, DataMotivate provided an end-to-end service to deploy the new reporting platform. The services involved:

Data migration, cleansing and validation: To ensure that the reports show the correct information
Creation of a database and data management tool: To enable end users to add, delete and modify reporting data, so that the database can be used for future transactions
Deployment of the Business Intelligence solution: Including creating preset reports and dashboard, training end-users on how to use their own data effectively

RESULT
Through using the BI platform, the client has been able to gain significant insights into investor behavior. They are able to assess the effectiveness of intermediaries and advise in the selection of the best combination of intermediaries for a specific sector and capital market. It is an additional level of insight that enables the client to prove that their experience now translates to valuable and effective advice. DataMotivate continues to support the deployment by managing the database as new transactions are completed.
